Accidents Happen

Training sessions were few and far between on Tracy Island. Mostly just because the brothers simply didn't have the time to fit them in. Between rescue missions, maintaining their Thunderbird crafts and just generally looking after themselves, they really didn't get much free time. When they did get a chance to partake in training exercises, they were, more often than not, very short or interrupted by an emergency call. And when that didn't happen, they were often interrupted by something else. Though usually it wasn't the equipment backfiring.

Scott had been insisting that Virgil carry grapple packs around with him when out on rescue missions, despite the fact that the younger of the two had never needed them. But Scott was not to be argued with on matters like this, all four of his brothers knew that, and so eventually, Virgil let his older brother take him out onto the rock climbing walls on the Island to get the hang of using the grapple ropes, though he still felt that it was pointless.

Everything had started out simple enough. Even if Virgil was getting increasingly frustrated with the whole affair. Whilst Scott jumped and abseiled along the rocks with grace and skill, Virgil kept stumbling and slipping and bashing his elbows on the hard stone.

He was slowly following Scott back to the top when something went wrong. The cable jammed, rendering him stuck and just adding to his annoyance. Virgil tugged at the wire, for a moment nothing happened, but then there was a click and it came free, but not quite how he wanted it too. The cable unwound and with nothing holding him up, Virgil began to fall rather quickly. As the wire reached the end of its tether there was another click and it stopped very suddenly, the metal cable retaining very little momentum. He felt something tear in his shoulder as the sudden stop left him hanging from one foreleg.

Virgil looked up to see that Scott hadn't even noticed that he'd fallen. Blocking out the pain in his shoulder, he tried to swing back towards the rocks, though he couldn't quite get a grip on them. So he instead tried to get the cable to rewind and lift him back up. But this didn't work either, something inside the device wrapped around his hoof decided to rewind incredibly quickly, straining his shoulder even more. Virgil saw Scott look down slightly before the cable stopped again half way up the wall, his brothers eyes grew wide as he saw the younger of the two fall again, this time getting sent into an uncontrollable spin as the wire wrapped around him.

Virgil could swear he heard something crack as the cable jammed again, tightening around his middle and knocking the air from his lungs as he stopped very suddenly again about five metres off the ground. He gasped and winced as the pain in his shoulder now spread to his lower ribs. "Little help.." He choked through his mic, looking up to see Scott hurrying down towards him. His agile older brother making the whole thing seem so easy..

Scott stopped a few feet above his little brother, letting himself hang from the platform above them. He turned his head to look at the stuck middle brother, looking thoroughly fed up.

He knew that he shouldn't laugh. He knew that it wasn't funny and that his brother was probably hurt. But the predicament that Virgil had been left in did look awful silly. And Scott couldn't help but let a few snickers slip, much to his brothers annoyance, before the oldest Tracy's professional facade vanished completely and he burst into a fit of laughter. Virgil groaned as he watched his biggest brother throw his head back and kick his hind legs out, visibly trying to control himself but to no avail.

"Bloody hell, Virg, how did you manage that?" Scott managed to say between giggles as he started to calm down.

"Shut up and help me, Scott." Virgil scowled as Scott finally stopped laughing.

"Yeah. Of course. Sorry Virg." The older brother said, still chuckling slightly as he adjusted his position to get a better look at what had happened.

Virgil looked down to see the oldest of his two younger brothers lying in the sand beneath them, laughing uncontrollably. "Shut up, Gordon!" He snapped. But the aquanaut just paused. Looked up at his older brother. And started laughing again, tears rolling down his face as he rolled about in the sand. This was certainly an incident that, as much as he'd like too, no one on Tracy Island, especially his younger brothers, would ever let Virgil forget..

I felt like this needed a little story to go with it

I should really try making my short stories, well, short ><

I honestly have no idea where this came from. Originally I was going to draw Scott looking all cool abseiling down a cliff or something. But then I thought 'What if..' and then Virgil appeared and this happened.
I wasn't sure if I'd be able to pull this off as I envisioned it. But it came out pretty good and I'm really happy with how the posing came out. Even if Scott's hind legs look a bit too short ><

Their uniforms here are a bit of a mish mash of what they wore in the orginal and what they wear in the 2015 show. Including the boots and shirts from thier orginal uniforms, but with gadgets and utility belts and such from their new ones. I have no idea how any of the gadgets work or what they are (other than the little microphone things) but hey ho. It looks good if nothing else.
Virgil, your legs are so colourful with all that gear on >3<

It was nice to draw these two just being brothers. I should do it more often.

Ignore my lack of abilty at drawing backgrounds. I just couldn't be asked to fiddle around so I left it with a gradient >< Just imagine thiers a rock wall or cliff either side of them, a beach or forest or something in the background and that it doesn't look like they're hanging from nothing ><
